Schools are being closed a lot. Some schools that are like a mile or two away from schools that have been closed, are still open. Do you think this is right? Why do you think this is happening?
I think its stupid. This so called swine flu is no more dangerous than the regular flu. All people need to do is have good hygiene, wash their hands regularly, and cover your mouth when u cough and everyone would be fine.
Well, I think the swine flu has much more hype than bite. Maybe things are being blown up because there's some new strand of the virus that we didn't know of before. I'm not exactly sure what to think of the school closings. It's make the flu seem sooo scary when schools have to be shut down, but I don't think the school district was being cautious enough. My sister goes to Riverside and her school was closed down because it's possible that she came in contact with the flu. But my school is still open. I think it's ridiculous to shut some schools down an not others because if my sister did come in contact with the swine flu and I don't attend Riverside (which I don't), she comes home breathing on me, touching everything, and I have to go to Marshall with potential swine flu. If i contracted it, my school contracted it. But from what I've read about swine flu, it's not much different from a regular flu. Besides, the schools closing wouldn't make a different because the students who are out of school are treating these days like vacation; they're going out and about to the mall and stuff, possibly infecting the city! But I really think it's all hype right now.
Marquita ~ EXCELLENT points! When people aren't going to their neighborhood schools, but schools of choice, the containment possibility is less. Not to mention if your sister is in middle school and you're in high school.
I think the notion that students are going to the mall instead of school is a really important point----perhaps things would have been more contained if the schools just remained open. We should think about this for next time, in case things are more bite than hype the next time!
