I work for Milwaukee Public Schools as the director of the Department of School Innovation. In this job I work to support the development new school models. Many of our new, small high scools have come through these efforts. I also support efforts to imporve our large high schools. This department also works with all of our charter and alternative schools. Out newest school is Transition High School which is at www.transitionhs.com.

Beyond my job I also work on a project called Youthaiti. This group is focused on supporting sustainable development in Haiti through the development of partnerships with high school and university students in the United States. You can learn more about this work at www.youthaiti.org.

Met Derrick, saw Transition.... don't have the words to say whay it meant to me. The guidance counselor there referred a student to Homeboyz once long ago, a student I will never forget. The trip to Transition was like Easter Sunday for a fallen agnostic Jewish Jesuit follow traveler such as myself... like maybe I am not crazy to keep believing what I believe is possible really is possible.

Word from Karen Ambrosh is that access is now open on the MPS student login. 40 of the first 76 members on this site are MPS students. One month after launch Milwaukee Students Speak Out is now more than one third as large as the original Minnesota site, which has been operative for two years.

Give me a call when you have a moment so I can tell you about the issues convention planned for October. Check out the Transition Group listing on the bottom right of the main page. I will be happy to invite you to join the group if you want.

Thanks for the language. I'll edit it down and post it. When can we meet Derek Rogers and get info about Transition on the site as well?

If you send me info about futures first I can make sure is goes into links and facts. Any good ideas about getting discussion threads going that are launched by students who are involved in futures first?

Thanks for your candid comments today, Marty. It was great to meet you and we are so grateful for your help in making this come to life.

I hope you had fun- look forward to 'seeing' you around the site.
