Tell us a little about yourself.
I am the former principal of Humboldt Park K8 School. I am currently working at Central Services in Milwaukee Public Schools as the Project Director for Safe Schools/Healthy Students Initiative. I am also a parent of two children in Milwaukee Public Schools.
Why are you interested in Students Speak Out?
I want to hear from the students. I hope to help their voices be heard by others.

Please tell the students that I am interested in hearing what they have to say. Invite them to join Students Speak Out and ask them if they would like to make testimonial videos, if you like. Work from Karen Ambosh at Cu Bois is that access from MPS Student logins is now open.

Let's schedule with Zanetta ASAP, if you are OK with it. We could be working with JMAC students, especially those interested in video production and the VFZs, during the summer.

Kristi: Welcome home (if you made it home)! Monday is jammed for me because I am full-court pressing to build membership at SSO and have only a little bit of time before schools is out. I still don't have "permission" from Bill for students to work on this site and all the fascinating learning projects it could support. So in the mean time I am building membership and participation the best I can.

Check out the compilation video. Imagine a series of such videos focused on the major themes and initiatives of Safe and Healthy. There is also going to be a SSO Milwaukee issues convention in October. Would you like to profile Safe and Healthy at the converntion and facilitate the student led discussions about the issues they are going to focus on in the coming year?

Their should be safety in schools don't get me wrong but that
shouldn't be the only issue. It's like treating the students like
prisoners. Sometimes the way students are treated kind of gives
them the attitude to act out.

I can't make the Stritch presentation, but I am all about linking Students Speak Out to the Restorative Justice programming. In fact, I have it in the grant proposal for SSO to do just that.
Would you suggest some times/dates next week when we can meet to begin to plan some action for the rest of the Spring and into the summer?

Dre Robinson the Senior Director at LCC is also very interested. I am sending him an invitation today. what do you think about a meeting of grown-ups to lay out a strategy for bringing SSO to JMAC. Included in the strategy:
testimony and video about restorative justice
training students for the use of the cameras
finding $$ to purchase a few cameras for JMAC
establishing a student SSO at JMAC work team with VFZ Youth Advisors as coaches and partners

I think I can get this organized by the end of the school year, so we can see some results and stay in touch with students during the summer. Would you join me in the early meetings (no more than two, I promise).

Kristi-
If you visit the Forum and check out Dominique S's interview and Asiah's interview, they both talk about suspensions. There might be a few more in the mix as I upload more. Enjoy!

Could we strategize the introduction of SSO at JMAC soon? I would also love to talk about sending some high school age SSO student ambassadors to the middle schools, especially 7th graders who could use SSO to help make good choices for their high schools.
