Tell us a little about yourself.
I am a project coordinator for Students Speak Out. I enjoy camping, designing (anything from projects to room decor to recipes), and being a wife and mom. Imagination is my asset. "It's kind of fun to do the impossible" was Walt Disney's motto, and one I've adopted.
Why are you interested in Students Speak Out?
I am passionate about students having a voice in defining the problems that affect them and in helping to create the solutions. Young people are citizens, and we are cultivating that citizenship with tools that work for them. If we ask them, we must be ready to hear what they have to say and incorporate it well into our work. It's trendy to ask; the important thing is integrating it with policy conversations. SSO does just that.

Do you think students who come from dysfunctional families are destined to have a dysfunctional life.

The upside of this thing is looking truly remarkable right now. Let's talk on Monday. I suggested a time (11:30a your time if you are in Cali). Let me know.

The next workshop will be run by CHS students for four other students from Work Institute, one of the other schools in the Sarah Scott complex.

Take a look at the Transition High School Group. I will invite you to be a member if you want.

Of the first 76 members, we have 40 students. It think with can have 100 members and more than 50 students by the end of the first month of operations, if you id our beginning as the day of the first workshop.

Now I have to worry about managing the explosion....Word from Karen Ambrosh at Du Bois is that students can log in directly from the MPS portal now. Viral can get a little, well, viral, you know?

Stay tuned for the invite to the issues convention planned for late October.

Afraid so! He's my husband. But the baby in the picture is my good friend's son--my "nephew". It was such a cute photo that I used it. I had our kids on there first, but it didn't frame right.

Thanks for the categories, Kim. I can't figure out how to move Will's interview into the CHS category, though...help?

Makes me think we should prepare a short white paper for the business plan on SSO and the political process:
Karen saw the value of SSO for her everyday work and for its broader capacity to realize ideals of active citizneship

That's all coming today, Kim. I'll have the leader packets done, the promo cards ordered, the website language done...I think that's it.

Pretty cool!
